DOULA SERVICES

What to Expect

FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION

This is a 1 hour meeting at the time and place of your choosing to give us a chance to get to know each other. I am also able to provide information about doula services.  I strongly encourage you to prepare questions about how I can help you achieve your specific goals. Finding the right doula for your birth is a serious courtship and we both want to ensure we're a good match.

If it is love at first consultation, a contract will be available to sign. If you need more time to talk it over, be sure to contact me as soon as you've decided, either way (I receive "no"just as graciously as a "yes"). Please note that my doula calendar fills up quickly -especially in happy spring - so don't wait too long!  I do hope to fit YOU in!

AFTER HIRING

Home Visit One and Two: 2 hour meetings in which we discover your fears/desires/hopes for your labor and birth with a Birth Needs Assessment provided to you. We will discuss what it is like to labor at home and in the hospital. If you prefer, we may practice several pain management techniques and coping skills, and several pushing positions for birthing. We will review when to call your doula and when to call your doctor or midwife, and discuss specific signs of labor and its progression to help you know for sure when your birthing time has come.

24-Hour On-Call: Your doula is available to you any time day or night from the time you are 38 weeks pregnant until the time your baby is born.  Should you have a pre-term birth, every effort will be made to provide services during that time as well.

All of Labor, Delivery and 1 Hour Postpartum: Your doula remains with you from the time labor has clearly begun (including early labor at home), transporting to the hospital with you, staying up to an hour after your birth to ensure bonding and a good start to breastfeeding.

Phone/e-mail/text Support: Your doula will be available by phone for you or your partner any time throughout pregnancy and 6 weeks postpartum. You are welcome to call after visits to your healthcare providers, call to ask questions about pregnancy or early labor, or call even if you just need emotional support.

Postpartum Follow-Up: This final home visit offers an opportunity for us to see one another one more time and talk about your birth experience.

Breastfeeding Support: Your doula can aide with initial latch-on after birth and provide breastfeeding support by phone pre- and post-birth.

Insurance Reimbursement: You will be provided with service receipts, a letter verifying services rendered, and other documentation to assist you in filing for reimbursement of fees from your insurance company.
